Arkadi Monastery

The exact date when the Monastery was erected is not known. By an inscription on the Church tower, we can only assume that it was built in the 16th century, while other records suggest that it was built by a monk named Arkadius during the second Byzantine era (961 1204 AD).

There is a beautiful view of the beach and the lush vegetation of the ravine that lies underneath. The location of the Monastery and its thick surrounding walls are of utmost importance since they played an important role in Greek modern history.
